Lodges in the Province organised dances, raffles, sponsored walks etc to raise funds for Erskine. The funds collected were enhanced with generous donations from Lennox Sovereign Chapter and Circle Publications as well as quite a few individual donations.
Erskine Director of Operations Keith Taylor accompanied by a few of the Erskine staff and veterans came along to a dinner at Dumbarton organised by Provincial Grand Lodge on 2nd October 2007 to meet the Dunbartonshire Brethren. Brother David M. Begg, Grand Secretary was also present. After dinner, Keith Taylor gave the Brethren an insight into the work carried out at Erskine, not only in the West of Scotland but throughout the country. At the conclusion of a very enjoyable evening Brother Thomas K. Leckenby, Provincial Grand Master Dunbartonshire presented Erskine with a cheque for £20,000 on behalf of the Freemasons of Dunbartonshire.
During the presentation the Provincial Grand Master praised the great effort from the Lodges and Brethren in this special fundraising effort especially as they continued to support their own local charities while raising funds for Erskine, not forgetting the call on Masonic benevolence.
The same week as the Erskine Dinner, the Province organised a concert to raise funds for the residents of Marcus Humphrey House. The result was a sell out concert held at Dalmuir on 5th October which raised £1500 to assist the Friends Group of Marcus Humphrey House to finance special projects for the Masonic Homes residents. The support for this event was marvellous, both in attendance and donations of cash and tombola prizes. Everyone who was present thoroughly enjoyed the concert which had quite a variety of acts including a sizzling performance on stage by the Manager and staff of Marcus Humphrey House.
Earlier this year in March, at the Installation of Thomas K. Leckenby, Provincial Grand Master a cheque for £12,000 was presented to the Depute Grand Master Mason Brother Kenneth D. Kennedy for the Grand Lodge of Scotland Benevolence Funds.
As can be seen, over the past few months Dunbartonshire has raised £33,500 for three worthwhile causes and this does not include the many other charities supported by Provincial Grand Lodge and the Daughter Lodge of Dunbartonshire. The Provincial Grand Master recently told the Brethren that we can all be justly proud of our achievements in Dunbartonshire.
